The Only Holocaust Victim I Know By Name

We started the day at the Anne Frank House. Very sobering. It occurred to us that her legacy is great in that she personifies both living in a German occupied country and dying in a concentration camp. Perhaps its only indicative of our slim knowledge of that time, but Anne Frank is the only Holocaust victim either one of us can name.

Its hard, too, to imagine Amsterdam as an occupied city, with Jews being rounded up, soldiers in the streets and repressive rules being published.

On a much lighter note, we toured the Van Gogh Museum in the afternoon. I'm grateful not to be cursed with genius. Van Gogh left a huge body of work behind, some of it very good and some not so. We saw both.

We can't seem to go anywhere without stumbling on at least one Irish pub, and Amsterdam is no exception. The one we went to for dinner tonight was fairly corporate, but good enough. We're both starting to wear out. Heading home on Thursday should be just right.

By the way, the recount is complete. There are 46 steps from the lobby to our room. Or maybe 47.
