We went through the last of the Gorges yesterday and since then the scenery has turned remarkably consistent: industrial buildings, drab towns full of drab high-rise buildings and patches of farmland.
This morning we stopped at Fengdu, the "Ghost City.". Probably not the highlight of our trip. Lots of Chinese superstition, liberally embellished for the tourists.
Weather isn't helping. Cool temperatures, overcast skies and a generous helping of smog.
It's our last night on the boat. Big farewell dinner. Tomorrow we disembark in the city of Chongqing, population 33 million. Our guide claims its the biggest in the world. I don't think I've ever heard of it.

I can't help but feel like this whole thing is totally ridiculous. 33 million people?! It sounds like they're describing a place on another planet, not another country. I keep envisioning this post-apocalyptic industrial urban wasteland.
Figured it out. Basically Chongqing is huge. The urban center is only (ha) 5 million. Shanghai is the largest city in China at 13 million people.

One more thing for clarity, New York City is about 790 square kilometers, Chongqing is 80,000 square kilometers.
Thanks Mike!
