Friday in China

Today we saw the area where the tombs of Ming dynasty emperors are located. Beautiful park like setting in the mountains leading up to a massive, un-excavated tomb. The buildings on the site have been restored to exhibit some of the items recovered from another tomb.

This afternoon we climbed a section of the Great Wall. The climb felt like it was straight up. A heart-pounding experience.

This segment of the wall is in an area that reminded me strongly of the American southwest, but with a very prominent wall running through it. "Wall" doesn't do it justice. It’s much closer to a very long, very skinny building.

We got to experience the full force of Beijing traffic. Trucks, buses, cars, bicycles and god knows what all competing for a piece of asphalt. We were sure an accident was going to be inevitable.

It wasn't, and we returned safely to our hotel after a Peking duck dinner.

That's it for now, I'm going to bed.

I'm curious about the food, do you guys like it?

I was reading the wikipedia article on the Great Wall.... 5,500 feet long. That's more than twice the distance from LA to NY. Can you imagine a wall running all the way from NY to LA?? It's even longer than Key West Florida to Fairbanks Alaska!
