January 28, 2008

We spent an incredible morning Zodiac Cruising through the Beascoceal Bay. Imagine being in a little inflatable rubber boat, cruising through mountain tops and amazingly large ice bergs. The skies were foggy, exactly perfect for Antarctica, except for a brief moment when the sun broke through. It is probably on a scale with walking through the giant redwoods of California, but magnified by a factor of ten.

As we left the bay and went looking for our ship, the fog obscured everything. While we were never really in danger, I couldn’t help but notice that the Zodiac immediately ahead of us held included Jonathon Shackelton, second cousin of Sir Ernest Shackleton. It was hard not to think of Shackelton’s incredible voyage to safety. (Wikipedia article about Shackleton) (Schakleton Website)

Tomorrow, we cross the Antarctic Circle. We have been promised a very Polar Plunge, and at least some of us are looking forward to it.

I can only begin to imagine what that looks like. It sounds incredible!

I don't think the pictures I've found on the web do it justice. I can't wait to see yours.

Wow! We're not sure what a Polar Plange is but it sounds really cold. Take care. K&DW
